  1. Interesting that you are using the “beyond borders” title (I just found this site) I started a project titled “Crossing Borders Project” where I distribute disposable camera’s to various sub-cultures and provide workshops. The participants take the images they chose to reflect their stories and plights rather than the media doing it for them. I would love to have contacts in Libya, Egypt and other revolution areas to get the citizens perspectives, rather than from the news….these stories tell others the participants realities to other cultures. The words , Border Crossing , Crossing Borders, Beyond Borders, can be used in many ways…maybe we are on to something.

Thank you for connecting with me. I visited your site and it looks fascinating. Your Crossing Borders project reminds me of a certain liberation psychology video project. Are you familiar with Dr. Mary Watkins and Helene Shulman’s work on using art to work with trauma and memory? You could read the book Toward Psychologies of Liberation by them, especially the chapter Liberation Arts: Amnesia, Counter-Memory, Counter-Memorial, I think you would really enjoy it.

My main medium of work is through writing. If I had photography skills I am sure I would be doing something like what you are doing! It would be nice to collaborate somehow. I really love your idea to let them speak the story of their own lives.
